Sustainability tips for 2025

Our top sustainability tips to make 2025 your most eco-friendly year (so far)

As we step into 2025, sustainability is more important than ever.

Whether you’re exploring eco-friendly habits for the first time or looking to enhance your green lifestyle, these practical tips will help you live more sustainably this year!

INs & OUTs for an awesome (and sustainable) 2025

✨ IN for 2025

✅ Wearing the same hiking leggings all weekend
✅ Actually fixing the hole in my fave trousers
✅ Second hand steals and thrifted gems
✅ Taking the train and pretending it's romantic
✅ Swapping, borrowing and thrifting gear
✅ Reading clothing labels like a detective 🔎
✅ Composting like it's a personality trait
✅ Getting outside even when I don't feel like it (future me will thank me)

🚫 OUT for 2025

❌ Feeling guilty for not being the pinicle of sustainability
❌ Washing jeans after just one wear
❌ Thinking I'll become someone who suddenly likes running
❌ Panic buying fast fashion before a trip
❌ Forgetting my bag for life (again)
❌ Buying new activewear instead of actually moving
❌ Skipping rest days and calling it "productivity"
❌ Not getting outside enough
❌ Spending more time planning than going & doing

1. Embrace Slow Fashion for a Greener Wardrobe

Support sustainable clothing brands (there's a pretty cool brand I heard of: 3 rocks I think 😉) which focus on ethical production and eco-friendly materials.

Avoid fast fashion by investing in durable, high-quality clothing and learn to mend or upcycle to extend their life.

2. Say No to Single-Use Plastics

Everyone knows this one, but it's easier said than done - especially when it comes to food shops where you'll find every other vegetable wrapped in plastic!

The key is to be prepared when you can. A good way to start is chucking a reusable water bottle & a tote in your bag when you head out.

Just remember the small differences all contribute to the big change.

3. Travel Mindfully

We're all thinking about our holiday plans for this year... it's not just me right?

As we're in the planning phase, have a think about more environmentally (and possibly financially) friendly options!

Planning a group trip to France? Why not make it a roadtrip and split the fuel cost rather than flying? It's more fun that way too...

Roadtrips = party time, excellent!!

It's not just for yer' holibobs though! Carpooling to work, walking to the shop, cycling to work - it all helps!

4. Adopt Degrowth Mindsets

Instead of constantly striving for “more,” try embracing “enough.”

Simplify your life by consuming less, focusing on quality over quantity, and cherishing experiences over material possessions.

For more on degrowth, we've written a whole blog post you should check out!

5. Refuse and Reuse

This one is fun: get creative with what you already own.

Repurpose old jars as plant pots, use leftover fabrics for crafting, or find new ways to use items you’d usually discard.

If you have kids this can become a fun day of arts & crafts too - but even if not it's still fun to do!

If you're not the crafty type... you can always just take those labels off and use the jars in your pantry - super easy to do and it looks great!

Jam, coffee, peanutbutter and other jars washed and resused for a lovely looking pantry

6. Support Sustainable Brands

We've already mentioned shopping sustainable fashion & slow fashion, but think about all the other things you buy that aren't clothes. Are you shopping sustainably in these areas too?

Things like food, homewear, technology - there's sustainable options everywhere, you just need to have a look around!

7. Engage with Your Community

If you're not feeling like the changes you're making are having an affect - try checking out whats going on in your local community! Teaming up with locals is a great way to see the environmental mission clearly.

Look for local clean-ups, gardening projects, or sustainability workshops. By working together, you amplify your impact and inspire others to adopt greener habits.

Surfers against sewage run beach cleans all around the UK - see if there's any near you here.

8. Learn, learn, learn

Every change starts in your noggin'. So reading books, watching documentaries, and following sustainable bloggers or organisations helps inform you which will then help you continue on your sustainable mission.

To keep being sustainable you need to know why, so learning different aspects of environmental impact and how small changes help will help keep you on course for 2025!

Remember, it's not about perfection!

Sustainability isn’t about being perfect; it’s about doing what you can with what you have.

By adopting even a few of these tips, you’ll contribute to a healthier planet and inspire others to join the journey. Let’s make 2025 our greenest year yet!! 🌍
