What should you wear for Yoga?
So, you wanting to looking darn good when hitting that warrior pose eh?
Well, it's not just about looking good - wearing the right clothes for Yoga can actually have a pretty big impact on your whole Yoga experience.
From materials to the garment type, it's not something to overlook.

Why does it matter what you wear?
Looking good is one obvious answer, but it's also about feeling good and not being held back.
Comfort: The poses are uncomfortable enough, do you really want to wear something that makes it worse?? Soft materials that don't rub or irritate when you sweat are a pretty good idea.
Go with the flow: Yoga is all about flow, being smooth and fluid between poses is the whole point - you know what ruins that flow? Hoiking up your bottoms mid stretch or adjusting bra straps.
Rooted clothes: If you know us, you knew this was coming... responsibly made clothes! Why would you choose to wear something that comes from negative sources when looking to boost your own positivity? Choose ethically & sustainably made clothing and make sure you walk the walk!
When designing our clothing we look at solutions to common problems & pain points of activewear. For example:
- Tearing or uncomfortably tight clothing: Stretchy materials & movement based design (like our diamond crotch cuts)
- Clothes riding up or digging in: Well tailored clothing that is fitted appropriately plus our arms up cut
- Flashing the world: Designing our bra tops with being upside down/twisted around to ensure everything stays in

Okay, so what do I actually wear?
Think about where you're doing your Yoga sessions. Are they outdoors in nature or at a local yoga studio? This should help you decide what to wear.
I don't imagine you'll be doing Yoga out in the rain (that would be cool though), so think more about the temperature and surroundings.
Clothing for outdoor Yoga
If you're outside and there's a slight windchill you may want to opt for leggings or sweatpants to keep those legs covered.
Wearing bottoms like our bataboom sweatpants also come in handy for tucking your top in, to prevent showing your tummy when upside down!
If you're really feeling the nesh, something that provides warmth whilst still offering a full range of mobility, like our reach midlayer, is a perfect choice.
Even with no windchill, you may still be more comortable covering your legs when outdoors - no one would hold it against you!

Clothing for indoor Yoga
If you're heading to the studio, leggings or sweats are still totally acceptable - but don't be surprised if you see more shorts and bra tops indoors.
No matter what you choose to wear, make sure you're comfortable in your outfit and it doesn't impact your experience. Avoid clothing that has any of those pain points we spoke about earlier.
Wearing some soft shorts that don't ride up or restrict your movement is important. Like how we said before, you want to be able to flow freely without worrying about your clothes.
No matter what you choose or where you're Yoga session it - always choose something comfortable.
Don't bother with cheap and poorly designed Yoga clothes, you'll end up wanting to replace them soon enough.

Does it matter on your Yoga level?
Should what you wear depend on your Yoga ability? No, we wouldn't say so.
All Yoga clothes should provide comfort to the Yogi, no matter if you're in a Mountain pose or a Scorpion pose.
This is what makes Yoga so great, you don't need fancy equipment or gear to improve - it's all about practice makes perfect!
"Do I need to buy Yoga clothes if starting at home?"
Even if you're starting Yoga at home, the point of comfort & flow still stands. It's not just about looking good for others!
Does it matter if there's a whole in your leggings when practicing at home? Nope, that's only a problem for the poor person behind you at the Yoga studio! But if those leggings are causing any for of uncomfort, then it's best to get yourself some new suitable leggings.
Can you just do Yoga naked? This would remove the worry of restrictive clothes... but some of those poses will probably be more uncomfortable naked. 🙈
We've written a whole blog post on starting Yoga at home, it's definitely worth a read if you're planning to begin your Yoga journey from the comfort of your home.
Our conclusion
The clothing you choose to wear for you Yoga session does have an impact on your experience.
Choosing clothes that provide a solution to pain points like restricting movement, digging in/pinching your skin, and riding up, allows you to move and flow freely - forgetting you're even wearing clothes (but you are!).
